Willie Hardin “Cheese” Hopkins, 78, of Eden, N.C. crossed over Jordan on November 19, 2017 at Hospice Home of Rockingham County.
There will be a graveside service 2pm Wednesday at Overlook Cemetery with visitation to be held one hour prior to the service from 12:45 till 1:45 pm at Fair Funeral Home. Other times the family will be at his sister’s home, 524 Boone Road, apt. 2A.
Born November 6, 1939, in Spray North Carolina, to the late Willie “Bill” Hopkins and Vesta Shelton Hopkins, he grew up on Davis Street, where he picked up the nickname “Cheese”, at the age of three, because he loved cheese and would eat it at anytime of the day. He continued to use the name for the rest of his life.
He worked at Burlington Mills, as a tow motor driver and as a carpenter, before becoming disabled.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Elroy Hopkins, his nephew, Jeff Hopkins, his niece Lisa Hopkins Rice, his great nephews Chuck McMichael, Chris McMichael, and Jeffery Strafford, Jr.
He is survived by his sister, Brenda Hopkins Roach (Ralph,”Ham”), brother Leroy Hopkins (Marie), nieces Lora Hopkins McMichael (Jerry), Sheryl Knight Gusler (Dale), Teresa Hopkins Joyner (Larry), and Shelia Hopkins Gordon; nephew, Wayne Knight, sister-in-law, Barbara Hopkins, and several great nieces and nephews, and several great, great nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family asked that donations be made to Hospice of Rockingham County, PO Box 281, Wentworth, NC 27375
