Eden

William Leonard “W.L.” Pryor, Jr. passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 7, at the home of his daughter, Sarah two days shy of his 81st birthday.

A funeral service will be held Friday, July 12, 2024 at Happy Home Church in Ruffin at 11:00 a.m. The family will receive friends at Fair Funeral Home in Eden on Thursday, July 11, 2024 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Burial will follow the service at Dan River Church Cemetery in Ruffin.

W.L. was born in Danville, VA to the late William Leonard Pryor, Sr. and Catherine Shelton Pryor. He graduated from Ruffin High School in 1961. He attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he received a B.S. in Business Administration and was a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. Mr. Pryor was a member of First Baptist Church in Eden.

W.L. loved people and his community. His involvement in the community and his service to Rockingham County reflect this love.

He served as Chairman and Vice Chairman of the Rockingham County Board of Commissioners, was a member of the Rockingham Community College Board of Trustees, and was named Director Emeritus of the Rockingham Community College Foundation. Additional service to Rockingham County includes: President and Vice President of the Committee of 100 Citizens for Economic Development, Inc., Rockingham County Board of Public Health, Interim President of the Partnership for Economic and Tourism Development, Board of Rockingham County Habitat for Humanity, Reidsville Chamber of Commerce Human Relations Committee. As well, Mr. Pryor was a member of the Reidsville, Eden, and Western Rockingham Chambers of Commerce and served as President of the Eden Jaycees.

Surviving are his children Leonard Pryor and wife, Kim; Elizabeth Wilson and husband, Joseph; and Sarah Pryor and husband, Rob Hyler; grandchildren Jacob, William, and Lily Pryor, and Jake Wilson; great grandchildren Hallie, Ruffin and Whit Pryor; nieces Catherine Massengale and Caroline Baird; brother-in-law Mark Atkins.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Atkins- Pryor scholarship through the RCC Foundation, P.O. Box 38, Wentworth, NC 27375.
