William Franklin Burton Iii

William “Bill” Franklin Burton, III, 75, of Stoneville, passed Sunday, May 22, 2022, at Hospice Home of Rockingham County – Gibson House.

A private family memorial will be held at a later date.

Bill was born April 7, 1947, in Guilford County, to the late William Franklin Burton II and Rhetta Newman Burton. He grew up in Browns Summit. Bill was a graduate of Northeast Guilford High School and received his Bachelor’s Degree from Catawba College. Bill was a chemistry and physics teacher with Rockingham County Schools, having taught for 35 years when he retired. He was a member of Leaksville Moravian Church for many years. He enjoyed HAM Radio (KB4LZV). He enjoyed firearms and anything old.

Surviving are his son, Kirk Burton and wife, Bridget; sister, Loretta Youngman.

In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his loving wife of 50 years, Sally Barbee Burton.
