William "Bill" Woodrow Horton, Jr.

William "Bill" Woodrow Horton, Jr., 55, of 1114 Simpson Street in Eden, passed away Wednesday evening, April 30, 2014, at his home.

A funeral service will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, May 3, at Wayside Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Overlook Cemetery.

Mr. Horton was born August 14, 1958 in Rockingham County, NC. He was a graduate of Morehead High School, Class of 1976 and a member of Wayside Baptist Church in Ridgeway, VA. He was a retiree of Karastan Mills. Bill was an antique car collector and enthusiast, along with being an avid Carolina Tarheels and Baltimore Orioles fan. He was also a Baptist minister. Bill was a member of Ole Tyme Way Brethren Bluegrass Gospel Band and was multi-talented, playing many string instruments.

He is survived by his wife, Melanie Scotton Horton of the home; two daughters, Alyssa Horton and her friend, Brandon Boles, and Erika Horton, both of the home; mother, Pattie Eanes Watkins and husband, George of Eden; half-brother, Billy Horton and wife, Connie of Suffolk, VA; and half-sister, Sandra Knickerbocker and husband, Harry of Virginia Beach, VA.

He was preceded in death by his father, William Woodrow Horton, Sr. and his maternal grandmother, Hettie Eanes.

The family will receive friends Friday evening, 6 - 8 PM, at Fair Funeral Home and other times at the residence.
