William "Bill" Hampton Heffinger

April 23, 1949 — February 11, 2024

With deepest sorrow, we announce the passing of William "Bill" Heffinger, who passed peacefully on February 11, 2024. Born on April 23, 1949, Bill or Billy as he was fondly called, brought joy and laughter into the lives of many around him.

William served proudly in the NC National Guard for 16 years.

A man of delight and wit, William possessed a warm, infectious personality that made him the heart of every gathering. He was a giver of laughter and a seeker of happiness and will be remembered for his jovial spirit.

It's with a thankful heart that we reflect on the extra time we were allowed to share with him during the last few months of his life. His peaceful departure was supported through the amazing caregivers at Hospice of Rockingham County.

William leaves behind a loving family. He is survived by his children; his son, Josh Heffinger and his daughter Jill Heffinger; his ex-wife, Heidi Heffinger; his sisters, Jane Turman and her husband Steve, Shirley Surgnier, Judi Talbert, Margie Adkins Rogue, Patricia Reynolds and her husband Jim; and his sister-in-law, Terri Heffinger. His legacy will continue to shine through his granddaughters, who were his pride and joy, Peyton Heffinger, Eliza Heffinger, and Emerson Gillespie.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew Thomas Heffinger and Hattie Sue Cook; his siblings Rebecca Squires, Juanita Mullins, Frank Thomas “Tommy” Heffinger, Timothy Heffinger, and John Cook. They are reunited now in joyous reunion.

A visitation will be held on February 24th, 2024 from 1:00-2:00 pm with a Memorial Service at 2:00pm at Fair Funeral Home, 432 Boone Rd in Eden NC. Military Honors will be given by the Rockingham County Veterans Honor Guard on the front lawn following the service.

We invite you to join us in celebrating the life of a treasured man. He made an unforgettable impact on all who knew him and he will be greatly missed. As we bid farewell to our beloved family member and friend, let's remember the laughter and love he shared with us, and strive to keep his spirit alive in our hearts through our memories and recollections of all the good times we shared with him over the years.
