Wilfred “Bill” Joseph Austin, 89, passed away peacefully in Kennett Square, PA, on July 18th, 2016, surrounded by his wife and family. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Shirley (Paldan) Austin, his children, Martha Austin King (Thomas), Marshall Austin (Stephanie), Joseph Austin (Susan), and Laura Austin Allen (Stanley), daughter in law, Lisa Mitschke Austin, his thirteen grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his eldest son James Craig Austin.
Bill was born and raised in the Detroit, MI area and spent the majority of his life living in Michigan and North Carolina with his wife and family. After serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II, he worked in the transportation and logistics industry as an account executive for over 35 years. A frequent volunteer in his community, Bill was committed to working with hospice patients as well as volunteering for Habitat for Humanity. He had a passion for gardening and sports, but he truly loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Bill will be missed by his family and the communities where he has lived and served. To honor him, a visitation will be held on Saturday, August 27th from 1:00 – 3:00PM, at the Morehead Fair House (Fair Funeral Home) 432 Boone Road, Eden, NC. Burial will follow in Roselawn Cemetery in Reidsville, NC.
