WALTER ?��Ǩ?�THE TRUCK?��Ǩ�� KIM FERGUSON, 58, passed away Tuesday, September 9, 2014 at The Hospice Home of Rockingham County.
Funeral services will be held at 2 PM, Friday, September 12, 2014, at First Wesleyan Church, Eden, NC with burial to follow in Overlook Cemetery.
Walter was born on Dec 3, 1955 in Leaksville, NC to Frances Lorene Coone Ferguson and the late Walter Ray Ferguson, the youngest of 3 boys.He was a life-long active member of First Wesleyan Church and served as an usher, greeter, and narrator for different programs presented by the choir. He played on the church softball team for 24 years. Walter loved his church and church family. He was a graduate of Morehead High School, Class of 1974 and from Rockingham County Community College with an Associate's Degree in Business. Walter was employed for several years as a salesman at Charles White Chevrolet/Cadillac in Martinsville, VA, and more recently at Schewel Furniture Co. in Martinsville, VA and Eden.
Walter, known as ?��Ǩ?�The Truck?��Ǩ��, won over 300 awards, trophies, and certificates. He won 8 World, 15 National, and 28 State Championships during his weightlifting career. He served as a referee for various sanctions. He was inducted into the North Carolina Barbell Hall of Fame in 2006. Sharon said that Walter was ?��Ǩ?�A champion among athletes and among men?��Ǩ��. He was loved and respected by many, including herself.
He is survived in addition to his Mother Lorene, by his brother Dana Ferguson & wife Mary, and Jan Ferguson & wife, Kathy , of Eden, and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by the one who loved and cared for him, Sharon Cook Frith of Stoneville, NC.
In addition to his Father, he was preceded in death by his grandparents Willie & Ada Coone, and his Aunt and Uncle Ruby & Harold Matthews.
Visitation will be held on Thursday evening from 6-8 PM at Fair Funeral Home in Eden, and at other times at the family home, 609 Franklin Dr., Eden, NC.
