Walter Randolph "Randy" Hylton, 88, of 541 Bryant Street in Eden, passed away Wednesday morning, February 27, 2013, at Morehead Memorial Hospital.
A funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Friday, March 1, at First Church of the Brethren in Eden, NC. Burial will follow at Germanton Brick Church of the Brethren Cemetery in Rocky Mount, VA.
Mr. Hylton was born October 4, 1924 in Spray, NC, son of the late Walter Rufus and Rosa Dodson Hylton. He was a World War II US Army veteran who served in Europe. Mr. Hylton was a member and lifetime deacon of First Church of the Brethren. He served on the church board and as an usher for many years. As a part of a ministry to shut-in's, he delivered tapes of the church services to people who were unable to attend. Meals-on-Wheels was another of his volunteer efforts, also included were Caregivers of Rockingham County as well as the Cooperative Christian Ministry. Mr. Hylton retired from E. I. DuPont in Martinsville, VA after 38 years of service.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Nina Peters Hylton of the home; Jon Randolph Hylton and wife, Karyl Roberts Hylton of Burlington; grandson, John Walter Hylton; granddaughter, Marie Elizabeth Hylton; his brother-in-law, Coy Hudgins; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Iris Hudgins.
The family will receive friends Thursday evening, 6 - 8 PM at First Church of the Brethren and other times at the residence.
