Vivian Ann Lay Slaydon, 85 of Eden, passed away Sunday, November 16, 2025, at Forsyth Medical Center.
A graveside service will be held at 2pm on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at Slaydon Family Cemetery on Slaydon Road in Eden. Visitation will be held from 4-6pm on Friday, November 21, 2025 at Fair Funeral Home.
Vivian was born October 12, 1940 in Rockingham County, NC, to the late George A. Lay and Hazel Dodson Lay. Vivian attended Lively Stone Baptist Church in Pelham, NC. Vivian attended Draper Elementary School, later earned her GED, and completed a 2-year program in computers at Kee Business School. She worked as a secretary and office manager at Mica Company of Canada in Newport News, VA., and then as a CNA/PCNA at Riverside Hospital until her retirement in 2007. Vivian spent time as a volunteer at Morehead Hospital in Eden, NC, and was a past member of Gold Wing Club Chapter C.
Vivian left the following note for her family:
“Please tell all my children and grandchildren and great-grandchildren that I loved them so much and I have prayed that we all will have a reunion in Heaven so I can cook a big meal for them again.”
Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Michael Dean Slaydon (Claudia) of Lake Gaston, NC, Roger Lee Slaydon (Becky), of Newport News, VA, daughter-in-law, Sarah Slaydon, of Newport News, VA, Joseph Eugene Slaydon (Bonnie) of Johns Creek, GA; daughter, Wanda Diane Miller of Eden, NC; grandchildren, Christopher and Kimberly Slaydon (Hunter, Patrick, Megan), Wayne and Lauren Slaydon (Maggie), Ashley Slaydon, Justin and Morgan Slaydon (Oakley), Jason and Molly Slaydon (AJ, Tina, Campbell), Brian Slaydon, Crystal and David McIntyre (Thomas, Destiny), Joseph and Danielle Slaydon (Andrew, Oliver, August, Sophia), Stephanie Light, Joseph Askew, Jodi and Chris Gagalardi (Ziva, Murphy), Brandon and Chelsie Miller (Eli, Luna, Zane, Aurora); sister, Georgia Lay; brother-in-law, Robert Slaydon; sister-in-law, Florine Hammock; as well as several nieces and nephews, and many family friends.
In addition to her parents, Vivian was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Edwin “Pete” Slaydon, her sister, Carolyn Kirby, sister, Helen Gibson, son, Tony Curtis Slaydon, and grandson, Jerry Randall Askew, Jr.
