Vera Kallam Smith, 85 of Stoneville, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, March 27th at Eden Rehabilitation and Health Center.
A Funeral Service will be held Monday, March 30, 2026 at 2:00pm in the Chapel of Fair Funeral Home. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at the Stoneville Municipal Cemetery in Stoneville, NC. Visitors are being received at the home of her daughter 100 Bryan Street, Stoneville, NC at other times.
Vera was born September 26, 1940, to the late Dary Kallam and Nellie King Kallam. She was a graduate of Stoneville High School, class of 1958. She loved her classmates and they stayed very close enjoying good meals and remembering good times. She was FFA sweetheart and chief cheerleader.
Vera spent her professional life as an insurance agent. She started her journey with TC Stone Insurance in Stoneville. She later moved to Van Noppen Insurance in Madison and finished her career with BB&T Wall Insurance in Eden where she worked for many years. She loved her coworkers and the families she served in her professional journey.
Vera served on the Town Council of Stoneville. She truly loved the people of her community.
Vera was a woman with a strong faith in the Lord. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Stoneville. She devoted many years of her life taking care of her mother and her brother. She adored her siblings, nieces and nephews. She loved her only daughter, Deb, with every part of her. She loved the Kallam family with all her heart. She always felt it was such an honor to be a part of such an amazing family. She enjoyed meals and fellowship with them all.
Vera enjoyed meals, shopping, and beach trips with her friends. She enjoyed heart-to-heart time with Deb sitting in her swing on the carport, eating pasta, and watching movies. She and Deb shared a very close bond. As a mother, she was strong, supportive, patient, always at her side and teaching her the values of a Christian woman.
She was very witty and could make you laugh every day. She was a positive influence to all she knew. To know Vera was to love her. She holds a special place in the hearts of so many people and she will truly be missed.
Surviving are her daughter, Deborah Smith Evans; sister, Eunice Price; nieces, Sherry Pyrtle (Mike), Sandra Edmonds (Harry), Leesa Baker (Mike), Bonya Tredway (Andy), Tania Martin (Jimmy), Wendy Roberts, Rickie Kallam, Dixie Brown (Mark); nephews, David Kallam (Donna), Alan Kallam (Debbie), Joe Kallam, Mark Kallam (Gwynne); numerous great-nieces and great-nephews, as well as great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews; sister-in-law, Nancy Craddock (Ron).
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Jim Kallam (Barbara), Millard Kallam (Jamie), John Kallam (Kay), Dennis Kallam (Willa), Buck Kallam; brother-in-law, Leonard Price; nephew, Tommy Kallam; great-niece, Heather Joy Edmonds; son-in-law, Terry L. Evans; and life-long soulmate, William “Eddie” Smith.
