Toni was a graduate of Tri-City High School and Women’s College of UNC Greensboro.  After college Toni taught Spanish at Morehead High School, before embarking on a career as a travel agent, the store owner of “Your Favorite Things”, a homemaker, and a most wonderful mother and grandmother.  Toni served as Chairman of the Rockingham County Heart Association, YMCA Board of Directors, Chair of the Fieldcrest Foundation Scholarship committee, President of Town and Country Garden Club and was an active member of Leaksville United Methodist Church.  She was active in many charities and always provided a helping hand and a kind heart to people and animals in need.  In leisure, Toni enjoyed travel and spending time with her friends.  Some of her best memories were trips to Litchfield Beach with “The Crazy Ladies” and other special friends.  Toni enjoyed entertaining and cooking.  Hosting a party was one of her favorite things to do.  She loved family gatherings with her daughter, Emily and son, Alan, and wife, Sonya and adored her two grandsons, Clay and Cooper.  Celebration and love surrounded Toni wherever she went.  She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, leadership, grace and faith.

She is survived by her daughter, Emily Burchell; son, Alan Burchell and wife, Sonya; grandsons, Clay Burchell and Cooper Burchell; brother, Michael Flanagan and wife, Anne; nieces, Susan Eaton and Katherine Gwynn and husband, Don and their children, Hill Gwynn, Mary Katherine Walt and husband, Robbie, Emma Gwynn and Harrison Gwynn; and her loving and loyal canine companion, Jane.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Bernice Shaw and Alfred Flanagan; and her husband, Jesse Lane Burchell.

The family would like to send a special thanks to Jan Lynn and Ruth Cheshire for their compassionate care and love given to Toni while at her home.  Also, it is with respect and gratitude that the family sends thanks to the caregivers at Well-Spring Skilled Care Facility and AuthoraCare Hospice of Greensboro.
