Thomas Andrew Watson, Ii

September 6, 1953 — February 17, 2023

Thomas Andrew “Andy” Watson, II, age 69, of Highland Park Drive, Eden, NC, went to be with the Lord on Friday, February 17, 2023, at Cone Health Care in Greensboro, NC.
A graveside service will be held 2 pm Tuesday, February 21, 2023 at Mountain View Cemetery in Ridgeway, Va.
Andy was born two months prematurely September 6, 1953 in Kenosha, Wisconsin to the late Thomas A. Watson and Margaret Rothermel Watson.  He grew up in Menomonee Falls, WI, and graduated from University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire. Always active in his home church, Andy continued his helping ministry as a graduate of Emory’s Candler School of Theology with a Master of Divinity Degree.  He met his wife Debra at Emory, and they served as a clergy couple in Tennessee and Virginia for thirteen years before Andy extended his helping ministry by becoming a certified Nursing Assistant in Home Health Care while Debra continued with pastoral ministry.
When they moved to Eden, Andy became active in Leaksville United Methodist Church and soon joined, teaching Sunday School and fulfilling his love of music by singing in the chancel choir.  Andy loved animals and could be seen in the neighborhood walking one of his dogs while keeping a good count of his steps.   He had certain television shows he enjoyed watching and liked to care for the earth by recycling. (He never met an aluminum can he didn’t like to bag up). Sadly, his hydrocephalus, likely life-long, ended his dog walking and ultimately led to his death from a pulmonary embolism. No longer needing his physical body, Andy would be pleased to know that he was able to help so many others through organ and tissue donation.
Surviving are wife of 41 years, Debra Starling Watson of the home; brothers, William “Bill” Watson (Heidi) and Jack Watson (Marguerite); sister-in-law, Donna Crowe (John); nieces, Rachel Knutson (Quentin) and Betsy Lundmark (Per); nephews, David Watson (Karen), Steve Watson (Megan), Tim Watson (Jasmin), Josh Watson, Ian Watson, David Crowe, and James Crowe; great nieces and nephews, Dylan, Lily, Hannah, Lucas, Corey, Max, Bella, Chase, Phoenix, Freya; animal children, dog, Mary Jayne, cats, Mark and Dinah.
Memorial contributions can be sent to Leaksville United Methodist Church, 603 Henry Street, Eden, NC 27288, marked for the music ministry.
