Thelma Kennon Meade

December 22, 1931 — February 27, 2016

Thelma Kennon Meade, age 84, passed away Saturday morning, February 27, 2016 at Morehead Nursing Center.

A funeral service will be held 2 pm Wednesday at Fair Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Johnny Dyer officiating,  burial will follow at Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening at Fair Funeral Home from 6 - 8 pm.
 
Mrs. Meade was born December 22, 1931 to the late Johnny and Elsie Moore Kennon. She was a member of Mayfield Baptist Church.  She loved raising her grandchildren and playing cards.  Thelma worked at Dan River Mills in her early years and later worked at Fieldcrest Mills.
 
Preceeding her in death along with her parents were husband, Alvin Meade; daughter, Brenda Lumpkins; sisters, Eula Mae Arthur, Mary Nichols and Louise Moore; brother, Robert Kennon.
 
Surviving are daughters, Melissa Smith and husband Jimmy of Eden and Delores "Lois" Wilson and husband Allen of Ruffin; son, Lawrence Mundy and wife Diane of Prince George, VA; brother, J.C. Kennon; sisters, Geraldine Haymore, Virginia Ann Jackson and Eleanor Corum; son in law, Robert "Skip" Lumpkins; grandchildren, Sarah Billings and Kayla Smith, Chad Wilson, Ann Marie Wilson and Connie Strader, Michelle Temple, Terrie Holman and Lawrence Jeffrey Mundy; 14 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.
 
The family would like to express a special thanks to Morehead Nursing Center and to Dr. Terry Daniels and staff.
 
The family will receive friends at other times at the home of her daughter, Melissa, 1811 E. Stadium Drive.
