Susie Martin Fargis, of Stoneville, NC passed away peacefully on March 7th, 2026 at her home. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, March 12th at Fair Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at Fair Funeral Home in Eden with a gathering immediately following the service at the Morehead Fair House at 3:00 pm.
Susie was born September 15th, 1939 in Mecklenburg County, NC. She was a lifelong resident of Eden. Susie was a retired legal secretary who worked at various law firms over her career. Outside of work, she enjoyed an active social life and was known as, “Young at heart.” She loved camping, quilting, travelling, and cruising with her husband and close friends. She looked forward to her annual girl’s trip to Cherry Grove Beach. On vacation, she loved to cook big breakfasts for everyone. Susie was happiest playing board games with her family and friends or with a cat in her lap. She was a founding member of the Two Rivers Quilt Guild and active member of the Red Hatters. She enjoyed spending summers at Smith Mountain Lake sitting in the sun, reading, or riding the pontoon boat. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Eden.
Surviving are her husband Winfred Curtis Fargis of the home, daughters Mary S. Ferguson of Mount Juliet, TN, and Angela S. Shumate (Billy) of Eden, NC. Grandchildren Brad and Bryce Clark (Ashley) of Nashville, TN, Laura and Sarah Shumate of Greensboro, NC. Great grandchildren Rylan, Stone, and Ava Clark of TN. Stepchildren Laura Gail Carver (Van) of Mebane, NC, Windy Pulliam (Richard) of Burlington, NC, Cindy Sell (Brad) of Graham, NC, Jeff Fargis (Natasha) of Lebanon, TN. And a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, and her beloved cat, Charlie. Special thanks to her angel caregiver, Janice Dalton, and her hospice nurse, Cary Turner.
She was preceded in death by her mother Helon Martin Smothers, stepfather Gordon Smothers, and daughter, Kimberly Ann Stone. Family will receive friends at the home.
