Susan Mitchell Talley, age 67, passed away peacefully Friday, March 20, 2026 at Ancora Compassionate Care’s Gibson House, leaving behind a legacy of love, faith, and cherished friendships.
A funeral service will be held at Osborne Baptist Church on Monday, March 23, 2026, at 3:00pm. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow the service at Overlook Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at other times at the home of her daughter.
Susan was born on October 8, 1958, in Guilford County. She was the beloved daughter of Alan Hines and Shirley Mitchell, both of whom preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her adoptive father, Russell Mitchell, who lovingly raised her and played a significant role in her life.
Susan was a devoted mother to her son, Robert Russell Talley, and her daughter, Ashley Carter and her husband, Eric. She was a proud and loving grandmother to six grandchildren who brought her immense joy, Kaylee, Mason, Cohen, Austin, Elin, and Wyatt. Susan was a loving sister and friend to Kim Wright (Tommy) and Leslie Woody. She was a beloved aunt to her nephews, Dustin Wright (Kathryn) and Mitchell Woody (Jessica), and nieces, Cassidy Corum (Christian) and Cameron Lazenby (Ryan).
She dedicated many years of service to the Rockingham County Governmental Center, where she worked in the Accounting Department. Susan was known for her strong work ethic and kind spirit among her colleagues.
A woman of deep faith, Susan was a member and had a passion for attending Osborne Baptist Church, where she formed many meaningful and lasting friendships. She enjoyed participating in small groups, sharing laughter, and building connections.
In her free time, she loved playing cards, spending time with loved ones, and had a special fondness for all things Disney. Susan also was an avid fan of the Carolina Tar Heels.
Susan’s family would like to extend special thanks to her close friends who surrounded her with love, support, and companionship throughout her life.

Susan will be remembered for her warm heart, her unwavering faith, and the joy she brought to everyone who knew her.
