Susan Parker Bishopric

Susan Parker Bishopric of Monticello Street, Eden, NC died peacefully at her home with her family on Friday, October 15, 2010. A memorial service will be held at Leaksville United Methodist Church at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, October 22, 2010. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. before the service at the Church. Fair Funeral Home will be assisting in the service. She was born in Mount Pleasant, Tennessee on December 30, 1927 to Eugene LeRoy Parker and Amy Alice Hoge Parker. She grew up in Mount Pleasant with wonderful friends with whom she remained close until her death. She was a 1950 graduate of Duke University and moved to Eden, NC after her marriage to Welsford Farrell Bishopric. She was a class agent for her Duke Class for the Annual Fund and was awarded the Charles M. Duke service award for her many years of tireless service to the Alumni Affairs and Annual Giving Offices. She was a life long member and volunteer with her church, Leaksville United Methodist Church, serving on many committees, including the endowment committee of which she was member until the time of her death. She was active with her Church Circle for most of the sixty years that she was a church member. She served as a Girl Scout leader. She was a member and an officer of the Friends of Rockingham County Library and promoted the Eden community by her membership in the Town and Country Garden Club, the Leaksville-Spray History Club and the Border Book Club. She enjoyed being outdoors whether playing tennis, golf, camping with her Girl Scouts, or keeping her yard in pristine condition. She enjoyed traveling with her friends and her family. For many years she worked with Travel Consultants helping clients with their travel plans to many destinations around the world and organizing group trips to New York City and other places. She is survived by her husband Robert V. Sims; brother and sister-in-law, Gene and Jane Parker of Plainfield, N.J.; daughters Alice Bishopric and husband Peter Stulginskis of Hickory and Barbara Bishopric McNinch and husband Jerry of Charlotte; son Mark Bishopric and wife Mary Hill of Eden; grandchildren Rebecca and Scott Bishopric; Susan Dickie and Sarah Dickie Frye and husband Brooks; grandsons Brad and Jeff McNinch and their families; special cousin and friend Libby C. Moose; stepchildren Melissa Sims Hairston and William H. Sims and their families along with many nephews and nieces that she cherished and shared in their lives. The family expresses its deepest appreciation to the Hospice of Rockingham County for their concern, care and assistance. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Leaksville United Methodist Church Endowment Fund, the Friends of the Rockingham County Library (Eden Library) or the Hospice of Rockingham County.
