Stephen L. Mahovlich, Sr.

April 22, 1939 — December 12, 2022

Stephen L. Mahovlich, Sr., 83, of Eden, NC, passed away on Monday, December 12, 2022, at Hospice of Rockingham County surrounded by family.
A funeral service will be held at 2pm Friday, December 16, 2022 at Fair Funeral Home Chapel in Eden with entombment to follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Reidsville. A visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service, from 1-2pm, at Fair Funeral Home Chapel. Stephen will lie-in-repose at Fair Funeral Home from 12-5pm on Thursday, December 15, 2022.

Stephen was born April 22, 1939, in Monessen, PA, to the late Stephen G. Mahovlich and Anna L. Mahovlich. He graduated from Monessen High School, Massanutten Military Academy, and Wake Forest School of Business. During his time at Wake Forest, Stephen played left tackle for the football team. After graduating from Wake Forest, he joined the North Carolina National Guard. He was married on June 1st, 1963, to Sandra Andrew and on July 1st of 1963 he was on a bus to Basic Training. He served 6 years with the 250th Supply and Transportation Company, 30th Infantry Division of N.C. National Guard. When he returned home, he joined Associates Discounts and served as manager in their loan office in Winston-Salem until acquisition from North Carolina National Bank in 1965. He remained with this organization, which is now Bank of America, for 28 years.

Stephen is survived by his loving sons, Stephen L. Mahovlich, Jr. and Matthew Mahovlich; numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Stephen is preceded in death by his loving wife of 58 years, Sandra A. Mahovlich.

  • Volunteered time Youth Football and Ford Punt Pass Kick Competition
  • Served on Consumer Credit Counseling Board
