Stanford Leon Corum, affectionately known as Stan, Daddy, Papa, Pops, Bro, “Stan the Man,” bid this world goodbye on August 19, 2024, surrounded by his loving family, in the arms of his devoted bride, and peacefully entered his Heavenly home.
A funeral service will be held at 2pm Friday, August 23, 2024 at Fair Funeral Home Chapel in Eden with burial to follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. The family welcomes visitors at Stan and Glenda’s home at 819 Martin Street, Eden, NC 27288.
He was born in Rockingham County on April 27, 1938, to Roy and Mary Corum. He was the eldest of six children, and his love for his family knew no limits, as evidenced in the beautiful way he loved his daughters, his girls - Terri and Lisa. He proudly retired from Rockingham County Schools, in 1998, as Maintenance Director, and lived a full and joyful life of retirement. Stan was a member of Central Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by Margaret Minter Corum (mother of Terri and Lisa), his brother Jerry Corum, his brothers-in-law Al Sprinkle and Jimmy Weatherly, great-grandchild Grace Alcorn, and Paul Crabtree.
Stan was known for his excellent woodworking and carpentry skills, the beautiful craftsmanship displayed in the creation of his own instruments, and his musical talents and abilities. His passion for music was a source of joy and inspiration for those around him, and a shared pastime for him and his wife, Glenda. No matter where he went, more than likely, you would find an instrument in the trunk of his car. To Stan Corum, it didn’t get much better than his family and his jam sessions!
He will always be remembered as a comforter - especially by those closest to him. His warm touch, tight hugs, kisses, countless “I love yous,” soft and comforting words, supportive and gentle hands, and a loyal heart, full of true love and dedication. He was, what you might call, the “perfect gentleman.” His deep love for his family was evident in every moment he shared with them. He had a special way of making you feel uniquely and genuinely loved. He was a “gentle giant” to his family - gentle in the way he comforted you, but a giant in his strength and unwavering devotion.
His sweet spirit will live on through and be greatly missed by the love of his life, his wife of 20 years, Glenda Corum; his children, Terri Meeks (Gene), Lisa Alcorn (Mickey), Jill D Crabtree (Curtis), Cynthia D. Cundiff, Bradley D. Crabtree; his siblings, Dorothy Weatherly, Joel Corum (Norma Jean), Hilda Sprinkle, Mike Corum (Sandra); brother-in-law, Johnny Minter; his grandchildren, Christie Benton (Elliott), Seth Alcorn (Julie), Josh Meeks, Joseph Meeks, Jared F Ware (Amanda), Jami B Ware (Christopher Eanes), Brady T Ware, Sonya Crabtree (Adam Hundley), Dillon Cundiff (Olivia), Tyler Cundiff, Cameron Crabtree, Riley Crabtree, Parker Crabtree; eleven great-grandchildren; family friend, Betty Lawrence. Many thanks to longtime friend and special caregiver, Ernestine Penn.
Stan will be greatly missed by all who knew him, but his spirit of love and gentleness will remain a guiding light for family and friends.
