Shelby McClung Evans

Shelby Jean McClung Evans, our beloved mother, passed away peacefully into the arms of Jesus April 28th, 2026 at Surry Community Health Center in Mount Airy, NC. She was surrounded by her family.

A funeral service will be held at 2pm on Friday, May 1, 2026 at Fair Funeral Home Chapel in Eden. Burial will follow the service at El Bethel Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service, from 1-2pm, at Fair Funeral Home Chapel.

Born on February 16, 1937 in Beckley, West Virginia, she was the daughter of Leslie W. and Susan J. McClung. She dedicated her life to her family and her faith in Jesus. Mom was a charter member of Lighthouse Baptist Church in Eden, North Carolina.

She loved being with her children and grandchildren. Her family was her life. She was the most humble and faithful caregiver to her loved ones. Her loving spirit overflowed to all who knew her throughout her life. Even in her dementia, she always hummed and sang hymns about Jesus. She was a friend, a light of hope, and her gentle spirit beamed all around her. Mom’s legacy is truly being a faithful servant and vessel for Jesus. She loved without condition. Her heart was a safe harbor. She will be remembered for her immense strength and tireless devotion to her family. Her love shaped our family. We will carry that love and strength with us and rejoice for the day we meet her in heaven.

Left to cherish her memory are her sister, Glenna McClung Chaney; children, Kim Davis (Paul), Keith Evans (Rhonda), Kevin Evans (Lisa), Tracey Walker (Chris); grandchildren, Joshua Pendleton (Becky), Haleigh Shockley (Jordan), Jacob Evans (Breanna), Ashley Breeding (Brandon), Taylor Davis (Ashton), Adam Burchell, Stephen Burchell, Devin Walker; great grand children, Laney Pendleton, Bo Pendleton, Nora Davis, Abram Davis, Liam Breeding, Lainey Breeding, Emerson Shockley, Ellie Shockley, and Bastian Burchell, Zayden Burchell, Alora Burchell. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, John “Buddy” Evans (Angela) and son-in-law, Steve Burchell.

In addition to her parents, Shelby is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Melvin Wayne Evans; daughters, Robin Evans, Deborah Burchell; sisters, Brilla London, Wilda Martin; brothers, Glenn McClung and Steve McClung.
