Scott Brian Spangler, age 49 of Hillsborough, NC, formerly of Bristol, TN, went home to be with his Savior, February 17, 2016 at his home. He was born May 1, 1966, in Bristol, Tennessee, the only son of the late Steve and Deanna Weaver Spangler.
Scott had many talents, and making friends was one of his best. Another of his talents was singing Southern Gospel Music; he began as a child singing in his local church and sang for local groups in the area, but at the young age of 20 he started singing professionally with Naomi and The Sego’s; he felt honored to be able to share the stage with the Living Legend and in 1999 he became their new baritone singer, replacing Naomi’s recently deceased husband, Vernon Reader. He stayed with Naomi from 1999 until July 2003, working his way up from baritone singer of the group to manager of the group, booking agent and handling the emcee duties on stage. In 1986 he was invited to become a member of The Blackwood Quartet from Memphis, TN. And this afforded Scott the opportunity to sing all across the United States. After leaving the Blackwoods, Scott moved back home to Bristol, got married and became a father to his only child, Stephanie Spangler- Falin. Scott graduated from Gupton – Jones College of Funeral Service at the age of 26 and became a Licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer and worked for many local funeral homes in the Tri-cities. Scott was also know for his wresting talent; he started professional wresting at age 15, where he traveled the United States and Overseas, he was later a ring announcer for Smokey Mountain Wresting. He was also well known for his famous radio personality “Brian Scott”. He was a radio disc jockey with many stations in the Tri-cities area of TN and also in West Virginia. Scott’s last years he has enjoyed working as a Funeral Director/Embalmer, and was formerly employed by Fair Funeral Home in Eden and most recently employed with Walker’s Funeral Service in Chapel Hill, NC.
Scott is survived by his daughter, Stephanie Spangler – Falin and husband David of Kingsport, TN, a grandson, David Luke Falin, his ex-wife and friend Rebecca Russell Young of Raleigh, NC, a special friend, Cindy Hall, and other beloved family and friends.
The family will receive friends Monday, February 22, 2016 from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Weaver Funeral Home, Bristol, TN.
Funeral Services will be held, Monday February 22, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. at Weaver Funeral Home Chapel, Bristol, TN, with Rev. Vaden Horne officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted, Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Glenwood Cemetery, Bristol, TN.
Walker’s Funeral Home of Chapel Hill, NC and Weaver Funeral Home of Bristol, TN are assisting the Spangler Family.
