Samuel Eugene "Gene" Burroughs

Samuel Eugene “Gene” Burroughs, 89, of Stoneville, passed away Wednesday, January 6, 2021, at UNC-Rockingham Health Care in Eden.

***A graveside service will be held at 2 PM on Sunday, January 17, at Ridgeview Memorial Gardens.  He will lie in repose at Fair Funeral Home on Saturday from 12 Noon to 6 PM for those wishing to come by to pay their respects.****

Born April 21, 1931 in Ridgeway, VA, Gene was the son of the late Claire Burroughs and Hallie Shelton Burroughs.  He was a member of First Church of the Brethren in Eden.  Gene retired from Henry County Plywood Company in Ridgeway, VA, after 30 years of service.  He enjoyed woodworking and loved music and playing guitar.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Mary Slaughter Burroughs of the home; sons, Samuel Eugene Burroughs, Jr. (Adrienne) of Stoneville and Belvin Thomas (Janie) of Eden; daughters, Lisa Trant (Steve) and Judy Burroughs, both of Stoneville; 19 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; sister, Doris Wilkins of Stoneville; brothers, James Burroughs of Blackstone, VA and David Burroughs of Stoneville, NC; and sister, Wilma Grogan of Ridgeway, VA.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughters, Kay Frances Burroughs Wray and Margaret Ann Burroughs McAnally; brother, Russell Burroughs; sister, Ora Bradford; and brothers, Louis Burroughs, Curtis Burroughs and Alvis Burroughs.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Church of the Brethren, 730 Church Street, Eden, NC 27288.
