Ruth Launah Ward Hylton, 85, passed away peacefully at Central Continuing Care in Mount Airy, NC on Saturday night, July 16, 2011. She had been in declining health for several years and was a lifelong resident of Eden (Leaksville) NC until the past few years. She was born on October 4, 1925 in Leaksville to John Alvis and Nannie Ella Bell Ward. Mrs. Hylton was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a member of Spray Baptist Church in Eden. Mrs. Hylton will be remembered as a very caring soul, who was a talented seamstress, artist, musician, and a wonderful cook. She graduated from Leaksville High School and married the love of her life, John Hylton. Ruth worked at various jobs throughout her life, primarily at Fieldcrest Blanket Warehouse office, where she retired. Ruth and John were blessed with three children, Johnny, Sharon and Bryan. Mrs. Hylton is survived by two sons, John Warren Hylton Jr. (Linda), Robert Bryan Hylton (both of Eden), and one daughter Ruth Sharon Hylton Jessup (Jim) of Pilot Mountain NC. She was fortunate to have seven grandchildren: Hillary Ann Hylton Flynt (Will), Jonathan Mark Hylton (Kelly), Pamela Renee Jessup Marion (Matt), James Clayton Jessup, Matthew Lane Jessup, Leah Elizabeth Hylton, and Mary Rebekah Hylton. Mrs. Hylton is also survived by her six great-grandchildren: William and Warren Flynt, Hayley and Pace Hylton, and Olivia and Elise Marion. She also fondly considered Donna Scott Brown as one of her own daughters. Mrs. Hylton will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved her. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, John, and three brothers, Charlie, Eddie, and Alfred and numerous cousins and in-laws. Funeral services will be conducted at Fair Funeral Home in Eden by Reverend Jim Churchwell on Friday, July 22, 2011 at 2 p.m. Burial will follow in the Ridge-View Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12 noon to 1:30 pm at Fair Funeral Home prior to the funeral. Additional condolences may take place at the home of Bryan Hylton, 120 Oak Ridge Drive, Eden, NC.
