Russell Walter Hunter, Jr, 95, passed away Tuesday evening, May 22, 2012 at Morehead Memorial Hospital.
A graveside service will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, May 24, at Ridgeview Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Hunter was born March 12, 1917 in Spray, NC, son of the late Russell Walter Hunter, Sr. and Jessie Odell Hunter. He served in the US Merchant Marines. Mr. Hunter was a member of First Methodist Church of Draper and was a retiree of Potomac Electric Power Company.
He is survived by his sons, Ernie Hunter and wife,Lavonne and Russell Hunter, III "Perch"; sisters, Helen Kimball, Geraldine Vernon and Merle Gentry and husband, Mike; grandchildren, Pam Hunnings and husband, Giles, Rusty Hunter and wife, Regina, Tammy Knight and husband, Hal; great-grandchildren, Whitney Hunnings Curtis and husband, Ben, Ashley Knight, Blake and Brady Hunter; and great-great-grandchild, Mason Curtis.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mabel Hunter and daughter-in-law, Tish Nowlin Hunter.
The family would like to thank the West Hall staff at Morehead Nursing Center for their care and support.
There will be no formal visitation, however the family will gather at the home of his son, Ernie, 309 Merriman Street in Eden.
