Russell G. Mitchell

Russell “Russ” Gray Mitchell, 89, formerly of Morgan Rd. in Eden, went to be with his Lord on Sunday, June 30, 2024 at Ancora Compassionate Care, Gibson House, in Reidsville.

A funeral service will be held at 11am Wednesday, July 3, 2024 at Spray Baptist Church with burial to follow at Overlook Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. The family will receive friends at other times at the home of his daughter, Kim Wright, and her husband, Tommy, 514 Smith St, Eden, NC.

Russ was born November 9, 1934 is Roseboro, NC, to the late William James Mitchell and Bernice Beddingfield Mitchell. After graduation, Russ served his country in the U.S. Army. He was an active member of Spray Baptist Church. Russ earned his bachelors from UNC Chapel Hill in 1955. He owned Mitchell’s Discount Drugs, Inc., for 55 years. He spent many years serving his community through his pharmacy which was his passion, retiring in 1995. He also served as a member of Rotary Club, National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA), and as a lifetime member of the Eden Chamber of Commerce. Russ enjoyed going to church and singing in the choir. He loved singing, playing golf, traveling, and spending time with family.

Surviving are his children, Bill Mitchell (Debbie) of Welcome, NC, Stan Mitchell (Leigh) of Dallas, TX, Jeanne Nelson (Mike) of High Point, NC, Susan Talley of Eden, NC, Leslie Woody of Burlington, NC, and Kim Wright (Tommy) of Eden, NC. He is also survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Russ is preceded in death by his wives, Ann Land Mitchell, Shirley Mitchell, Peggy Mitchell, and daughter, Margaret Jackson.
