Ruby Moore Hairfield

Ruby Moore Hairfield, 83, passed away early Thursday morning, May 13, 2010 at Hospice Home of Rockingham County in Wentworth. A funeral service will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, May 15, at Fair Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Danview Cemetery. Mrs. Hairfield was born November 22, 1926 in Draper, NC, daughter of the late Ferrell and Janie Earles Moore. She attended Draper Pentecostal Holiness Church and later attended First Presbyterian Church with her daughter's family after moving. She was a retiree of Fieldcrest Mills after 40 years of service. Prior to her years at Fieldcrest she worked as a waitress in her Uncle Len Moore's cafe during high school and ran her own "Grit" paper route. Mrs. Hairfield was very active in her community having served as secretary and treasurer of Draper Elementary School PTA, a member and former president of Draper Y's Mennettes Club, and a member of the Draper Volunteer Fire Department Women's Auxillary. Surviving is her daughter, Beth Shelton and husband, Tim of Eden; her beloved grandchildren, Austin M. Shelton and Haley E. Shelton; sisters-in-law, Pauline K. Moore of Eden, Gwendolyn F. Moore of Stoneville, Callie E. Moore of Greenville, and Patsy Hairfield; brother-in-law John Hairfield; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews that she loved very much; special niece, Vickie Moore Slaydon whom she treated as a daugther; and life-long friend, Lorine B. Pruitt. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Billie D. Hairfield; and brothers, Jack, Melvin, Durwood and Bill Moore. The family would like to extend a special thanks to her caregivers over the past few years: Annie Bell Ellington, Daisy McCollum, Sheri Underwood, Leaksville Rest Home, and Beverly Rucker and staff for all their loving care. Also a special thanks to the wonderful, tender, caring staff of Hospice Home of Rockingham County for the last two weeks of Mom's life. When nothing more could be done medically, they treated Mom with the care, dignity, and respect she truly deserved. Special appreciation for the support they provided her family. Visitation will be held an hour and a half prior to the service (12:30 - 2 PM) on Saturday at Fair Funeral Home and other times at the home of her daughter, 210 Weaver Street in Eden. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Rockingham County, PO Box 281, Wentworth, NC 27375 or the Duane Best Auditorium Seat Program, PO Box 4424, Eden, NC 27289.
