Ruby Jean Dunovant Cardwell

Ruby Jean Dunovant Cardwell, 83, passed away Sunday evening, November 19, 2017, at Morehead Nursing Center.

A funeral service will be held at 1 PM on Wednesday, November 22, at First Wesleyan Church in Eden.  Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service (12 Noon to 1 PM) at the church.

Mrs. Cardwell was born February 4, 1934 in Spencer, VA, to the late Wade and Martha Newman Dunovant.  She was a lifetime member of First Wesleyan Church and a retiree of Bank of America.  

She is survived by her son, Tim Thornton (Pam) of Stoneville;  three grandchildren, Scott Thornton (Jessica), Christopher Thornton (Alicia), and Cameron Thornton (Hillary);  four great-grandchildren;  sister, Martha Kendrick (A. J.) of Asheboro;  brother, Tom Dunovant of Seattle, Washington; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Jack Thornton;  her second husband, N. D. Cardwell;  and four brothers.
