Robert Wayne Seymour, known to all as “Wayne”, 81 of Reidsville, passed away on 6/24/26.
A memorial service will be held by the family at 1pm on Saturday, July 25, 2026 at Church of the Epiphany in Eden. A reception will follow the service.
Wayne was born on 2/12/45 in Alabama to his parents Rev. Collie and Christine Seymour. Wayne was the oldest of five siblings and grew up all over the south east. Wayne attended Elon College which is where he met his beloved wife Lyn and many life-long friends.
Wayne was a man of the arts. At Elon, he studied theater and English. These skills and knowledge followed him into his 41 years of teacher drama, English, and library science. Wayne taught students in kindergarten all the way up to high school honors. He was involved in all things such as glee club, debate and quiz bowl, drama productions, and anything music related.
Outside of school, Wayne spent 11 years as the music director of the Touring Theater of NC where he scored, wrote, and performed numerous productions. Along with his love of theater, Wayne was a staple figure in the old time and bluegrass community. In 1967 he was the Union Grove first runner up in the world champion guitar competition. He participated and spearheaded dozens of dulcimer workshops and camps all over the nation and participated as both an instructor and performer. Wayne was also a volunteer and advocate for many local music festivals such as Pickin’ at the MARC and the Charlie Pool Festival. He has also played with and performed with an extensive amount of old time and bluegrass luminaries as well as performed at the Knoxville world's fair.
Wayne was a teacher both in and outside of his classroom and this was fueled by his intense passions for music, books, theater, and bad jokes. Wayne was someone who brought people together and included all who wanted to pick a tune with him. His wealth of knowledge has been shared with countless people over the years and is one that will be sorely missed but never forgotten.
Wayne Seymour is survived by his wife, Lyn Seymour of Reidsville. His oldest son Alex Seymour and his wife Amy along with their two children, Riley and Noah Seymour. His youngest son Jeff Seymour and his wife Katie along with their three children, Lily, Charlie, and Mary Gentry Seymour. His brother Rev. David Seymour and his wife Marilyn Seymour. His sister Janet Cooke and her husband Bill Cooke. His other brother Ben Seymour and his wife Becky Cleland. And his youngest sister, Susan Amos and her husband Donnte Amos. He is also survived by his best friend and music partner of 50 years Fred Reynolds as well as many other friends and family.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Church of the Epiphany in Eden NC where Wayne and his family were long standing members as well as being extensively involved in the music program there.
Wayne will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved him.
