Robert F. St. Lawrence II, 65, died on February 24th at Four Oaks Health Care Center in Jonesborough, TN after a lengthy illness.
Rob leaves his son, R. Fletcher St. Lawrence III and daughter-in-law, Susan Taylor St. Lawrence from Jonesborough, TN. He leaves three sisters, their spouses and daughters: Lisa St. Lawrence, partner, Billy Foster and daughter, Robyn Gross from Troutville, VA; Patti Kernodle, spouse, Sidney Kernodle from Newport News, VA, and daughter, Lydia Kernodle from NYC; Jenni Yount and spouse, John Yount from Eden, NC and daughter, Andrea Yount from Summerfield, NC. Rob also leaves behind two aunts, an uncle and five cousins.
Rob was born at the Patuxant River Naval Air Station in Maryland to Shirley Riggan (St. Lawrence) Hooker and Robert F. St. Lawrence. Both parents preceded Rob in death, as did his stepfather, Samuel A. Hooker, Jr..
After living some of his early life in Texas and Massachusetts, Rob moved with his family to Martinsville, VA. He graduated from Martinsville High School in 1972, then attended and graduated from the College of William and Mary in 1976. After college Rob made his home in Martinsville and was a CPA by profession. He later moved to Roanoke, VA and worked as a Comptroller until his declining health forced him to retire early.
Rob had several hobbies and passions: He was fascinated by airplanes and built models his entire life. He was an avid coin collector and a voracious reader. Rob was a computer geek and earned an Associates degree from ECPI just because he wanted to know more. He loved golf, but was, admittedly, no one’s pick to partner with in tournaments! Lastly, GO DALLAS COWBOYS, but he watched the games every Monday and on weekends, while in season, no matter who played!
It would be remiss not to mention that Rob loved animals, especially dogs. His two Jack Russell Terriers, BB and Sis, brought much joy to Rob’s life, especially in his last years as his health continued to decline.
The family will have a private graveside service for Rob on Thursday, February 28th at Oaklawn Cemetery in Martinsville, VA. A service to celebrate his life will be held in the spring.
