Robert Dean Rhodes

April 23, 1945 — October 22, 2024

Eden

Robert Dean Rhodes, a beloved husband, father, brother, and grandfather passed away on October 22, 2024 in Eden, North Carolina, surrounded by his cherished family. He was born on April 23, 1945, in Boone County, Illinois, and lived a life marked by love, dedication, and resilience.

Robert was a devoted family man, deeply committed to his wife, Nona, and took immense pride in his role as a father to his daughter, Catye Gould, and her husband, Joshua. His love extended to his stepsons, Dan and Bryan Starry, whom he embraced with warmth and affection. A nurturing figure in the lives of his 3 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren, Robert delighted in their achievements and milestones, serving as a constant source of support and encouragement. Robert was a lifelong member of St. John's United Church of Christ where he sung in the choir. He was a near 30-year member of AA, serving as a sponsor and running meetings in Illinois. Robert enjoyed woodworking. A cherished memory is of him making a wooden wagon with seat to be used in Catye's wedding for her daughter, the flower girl, and pulled by the mothers of the bride and groom.

In addition to his immediate family, Robert is survived by his brothers, Brant Rhodes, married to Judy, and Bruce Rhodes, married to Margaret, as well as his sisters, Sandy James, married to Dave, and Lorna Hegge. He held a special place in the hearts of numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, all of whom will miss his kindness and gentle spirit.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Dorothy Rhodes, along with two sisters, Penny Richardson and Linda Quick. Though he is no longer with us, the values he imparted and the memories he created will resonate in the hearts of all who knew him.

As we reflect on the extraordinary life of Robert Dean Rhodes, we honor his legacy of love and family bonds that will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to share in his life. The family wishes that Robert be remembered as always having a smile on his face and a fedora on his head, with a heart willing to help anyone in need.

A memorial celebration of Robert's life will be held at a later date.
