Robert Clyde Martin

Robert “Clyde” Martin, 102, of Reidsville, NC went home to be with his Lord and Savior Saturday, February 15, 2025, while at home. 

A Funeral Service will be held 11 am, February 21st, 2025 at Dan River Wesleyan Church in Eden, NC with burial to follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held at Dan River Wesleyan Church one hour prior to the service.

Clyde was born November 8, 1922, in Leaksville, NC to Ora Lawless and William Ramey Martin. He was a US Marine and WWII veteran who earned the Purple Heart for his heroism in the battle of Iwo Jima. Clyde retired from the US Postal Service as a letter carrier and continued his work as a carpenter building beautiful cabinets and furniture for churches and homes. Clyde loved his church, Dan River Wesleyan where he served faithfully. Clyde’s happiest moment occurred July 4, 1948, when he accepted Christ. Since that moment, Clyde shared the gospel with everyone he met. In addition to sharing the good news he handed out candy to everyone he met earning the name “the candy man”.

Surviving are his daughter Cindy Edwards, son-in-law Corky Edwards, daughters-in-law Grey Martin and Judy Rice (Jimmy), five grandchildren Amy Turner (Kenny), Derek Martin (Brooke), David Martin (Hope), Carla Reid, Jennifer Kellam (Jarod), nine great-grandchildren, Taylor Eubanks, Paisley and Penelope Martin, Zach Kennon (Betsy), Ethan and Aiden Turner, Jarrett Church, Nathan and Owen Kellam, three great-great-grandchildren, Easton, Emmie and Evie Kennon, sister Ardell Webb (Jerry) and numerous other family members. 

In addition to his parents, Clyde was preceded in death by his loving wife of 74 years Ada Coleman Martin, son Leslie Robert Martin, and siblings Lois Wimbish, Gladys Hale, Fairy Cox, Floyd Martin, Olene Martin, Ora Martin, Hazel Martin, Frank Martin, and John Ray Martin.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Dan River Wesleyan Church, 191 Dan River Church Road Eden, NC 27320 and Ancora Compassionate Care (formerly Hospice of Rockingham County), 2150 NC Hwy 65 Reidsville, NC 27320.
