Peggy Jean Sapp, 96, passed away Thursday, February 26, 2026, at Trinity Glen Nursing Home in Winston Salem, NC.

A graveside memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at Lawson Cemetery in Eden, NC.

Peggy was born in Clinton, North Carolina, the youngest child of Julius and Eva Roberts Sapp. She was an accomplished pianist, an avid reader, world traveler, and devoted sister. She attended Woman’s College of UNC in Greensboro before moving to Washington, DC, to work for the United States Government. During her 25-year tenure at the State Department, Peggy served as an International Educational and Cultural Officer at several foreign posts including Paris, South Korea, and South Africa. After retiring, she enjoyed more time with her friends and family, and in addition to her love of the arts in DC, she studied piano and performed with a jazz ensemble. In 2013, she moved back to North Carolina to be closer to siblings.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers JB, Carey, Jack, Philip, and Herbert Sapp, and sisters, Elizabeth Melvin, Louise Thomas, and Jane Pierson. Peggy is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Glen Nursing Home, 849 Waterworks Rd., Winston Salem, NC 27101.

Her family sends a special thank you to all of Peggy’s devoted caregivers, both at her home and then the nursing home.
