Peggy Lawson Bowman, 83, died peacefully Wednesday evening, March 8, 2012 at Brian Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Eden, NC following several month of declining health.
A Service of Celebration of Life will be held at 2 PM on Sunday, March 11 at Fair Funeral Home Chapel in Eden, NC . A private family burial will follow the service in the Lawson Cemetery, Sutliff family plot.
Mrs. Bowman was born in Eden, NC in Rockingham County on March 6, 1929 to the late Beulah Berrier Sutliff and Sidnor Hut Sutliff. Peggy grew up in Eden and she and her family were active members of King Memorial Baptist Church for man years. After marriage she lived and raised her family in both the Eden and Reidsville area. She was a devoted and caring mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Peggy loved meeting, greeting, and serving others. Her home and her heart were always open to those around her. She made many friends during her years as the Owner and Operator of Miller's Restaurant in downtown Reidsville and continued to be a friend to those around her even in later years as she lived in Eden caring for her parents and also in the assisted living faciities in Raleigh and Eden where she lived for the past several years.
Peggy is survived by her two sons, Gerald Wayne Lawson (Jerry) of Eden and Michael Jackson Lawson, Sr. (Mike) and wife, Barbara of Raleigh; three grandchildren, Amy Lawson Howard and husband, Kent and great-grandchild, Jasper Kent Howard of Chapel Hill; granddaughter, Ashee Lawson of Raleigh and grandson, Michael Lawson, Jr. of Apex, NC. Peggy is also survived by her sister, Margaret Sutliff Light of Richmond, VA; special cousin and friend, Frannie Reid of Eden; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 26 years, Herbert Benton Bowman and former husband, Lemuel Jackson Lawson; brother, Leon Sidnor Sutliff of Eden; and sister Elizabeth Sutliff Ellington of Eden.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service (1 - 2 PM) at Fair Funeral Home
