Paul Samuel Alverson

Paul Samuel Alverson, 71, of 142 Piedmont Street, passed away Thursday night, December 16, 2010 at Morehead Memorial Hospital. A funeral service will be held at 3 PM on Sunday, December 19, at Church of God of Prophecy. Burial will follow in Ridgeview Memorial Gardens. Mr. Alverson was born May 6, 1939 in Leaksville, NC, son of the late William Wesley and Pauline Mitchell Alverson. He was the former owner and operator of P. J. Furniture. Mr. Alverson enjoyed fishing at Oak Island and camping. Surviving is his wife, Norma Jean Meadows Alverson of the home; sons, Bobby DeMent "Alverson", Mike Alverson and wife, JoAnn, and Joey Wayne Alverson, all of Eden; sister, Shirley Wright of Ridgeway, VA; step-sister, Libby Rea of Rocky Mount, VA; step-brothers, Eugene Alverson of Collinsville, VA and Billy Alverson of Stuart, VA; three grandchildren, Tyler Alverson, Brittany DeMent and Caitlin Rierson; and a great-grandson, Eli Layton Rierson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Sherman Alverson. The family will receive friends Saturday evening, 6 - 8 PM at Fair Funeral Home and other times at the residence.
