Pandora "Pandy" Chambers Hawker

Pandora "Pandy" Renee Chambers Hawker, 59, of 512 Carolyn Court, Apt. L in Eden, passed away Wednesday evening, February 26, 2014 at Hospice Home of Rockingham County in Wentworth, NC.

A funeral service will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, March 1, at Fair Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Bob Peterson presiding. Burial will follow in Overlook Cemetery.

Pandy was born August 14, 1954 in Pittsylvania County, Virginia. She was a graduate of Morehead High School, Class of 1972 and a graduate of Western Carolina University. She was a member of Leaksville Moravian Church where she served as a Sunday School Teacher. Pandy was a true servant to her community having served on the Board of Directors for REMMSCO, Day Reporting Center, MADD, and the NC Association of Residential Facilities. A member of the NC Substance Abuse Professional Practice Board, she was a Certified Substance Abuse Counselor, a Certified Criminal Justice Addictions Professional, an International Certified Criminal Justice Addictions Professional and was trained in Critical Incident Stress Debriefing. She was most recently employed by Rockingham County Mental Health Center as a Certified Substance Abuse Counselor and DWI Specialist. Prior to that, Pandy worked as the secretary for Holmes Junior High School. She was the coordinator for the local Food Pantry. As part of her involvement with MADD, she was the Prom Promise Breakfast Coordinator.

She is survived by her mother, Rosie Shively Earles of Eden; step-daughter, Cassidy R. Hawker of Ruffin; sister, Jada C. Johnston and husband, Clark of Oak Island; niece, Blair Atwood (Rick) of North Myrtle Beach, SC; nephew, Tyler Johnston of High Point; great-niece, Jillian Atwood of North Myrtle Beach, SC; and great-nephew, Jackson Caines of North Myrtle Beach, SC; and extended family and special friends, Gina Williams and husband, Mark, Myra Phillips and husband, H. C., Joni Morris, Carolyn Carter, Teresa Stophel McCollum, Andrea Walker (Tony, Bryson, and Savannah), Chris and Kelly Blankenship, Alice Hundley, Jeremy Phillips, Rithia Simpson, and Tangela Holcomb and husband, John.

Preceding her in death was her father, John David "J. D." Chambers, Jr. and brother, Gregory Shively Chambers.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Smith-McMichael Cancer Center, Hospice of Rockingham County, Dr. Xaje A. Hasanaj, Dr. Boris Darovsky, and Dr. Kenneth S. Karb for all their care and support.

Visitation will be held Saturday afternoon, prior to the service, 12:30 pm to 2 pm at Fair Funeral Home and other times at the residence.
