Neil Gibson

Opal Cornelius “Neil” Gibson, 75, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 24th at his home in Ridgeway, VA. He was under the care of Mountain Valley Hospice.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, April 29th at 11:00am in the St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Eden, NC. Visitation will be on Tuesday, April 28th from 5:00-7:00pm at St. Luke's Episcopal Church. Burial will follow the service at Overlook Cemetery. The Rockingham County Veteran Honor Guard will be performing full Military Honors. The family will receive visitors other times at his home.

Neil was born January 16, 1951 to the late O.C. “Son” Gibson and Magdalene Cook Gibson. He grew up in the Spray area. Neil was a lifelong member of St. Luke's Episcopal, “The Rock Church”. He also served six years in the Army National Guard, leaving with the rank of Sergeant. Neil was also a member of SCV. A brick mason by trade but Neil was also a master craftsman.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife Debra Yurich Gibson of the home. Step son Joseph Wilson (Tyra), sister Anna Gibson Carter (Tommy), nephew Lee Craddock (Myra), niece Karen Setliff (Johnny)

Along with his parents he is preceded in death by sister’s, Sylvia Gibson Alcorn, Frances Gibson Craddock, niece Alice Beth Alcorn.
