Odessa Priddy Johnson, 90, passed away Monday morning, June 23, 2014, at Brian Center in Eden.
A funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, June 25, at Fair Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Ridgeview Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Johnson was born April 11, 1924 in Leaksville, NC, a daughter of the late Posey W. and China Sizemore Priddy. She was a life-long member of Leaksville Moravian Church. Odessa was a graduate of Leaksville High School and was known as a wonderful woman athlete during her high school days. Having enlisted in the Women's Auxilliary of the North Carolina National Guard in 1942, Mrs. Johnson achieved the rank of Captain during World War II. Mrs. Johnson worked with the Rockingham County Board of Commissioners for 39 years before her retirement. She was a former member of the North Carolina Commissioner's Association and the North Carolina Business and Professional Women's Association.
She is survived by her son, Walter "Skip" Johnson; three daughters, Tanya Harris, Sherry Hall and husband, Jonathan and Janet Davis and husband, Tommy, all of Eden; and nine grandchildren and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Lowrance Johnson; brothers, Edward, Spence and Ballard Priddy; sister, Kathleen Hunnicutt; her son-in-law, Joe Harris; and her daughter-in-law, Cindy Johnson.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to Kay Witty, Mrs. Johnson's long-time sitter and friend, for all her loving care and to a very old friend and high school graduation classmate, Homer Wright.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Wednesday (10 - 11 AM ) at Fair Funeral Home and other times at the home of her son, "Skip" Johnson, 416 Evergreen Court in Eden.
