Nannie Bet Parrish Pyrtle

Nannie Bet Parrish Pyrtle, 94 of Axton, VA, passed away on June 22, 2026 at Annie Penn Hospital in the presence of her loved ones. She was born in Pittsylvania County, VA on November 9, 1931 to Lloyd Thomas Parrish and Martha Ferrell Parrish.

A funeral service will be held at 2pm Monday, June 29, 2026 at Fair Funeral Home Chapel in Eden with visitation being held one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Parrish Family Cemetery on Herndon Ln (Off Martin Dr.) in Axton, VA.

Though born of humble beginnings, Ms. Pyrtle lived the life of one who had laid up bountiful treasure in Heaven. Her tireless patience, kindness, and compassion was felt by all who encountered her right down to the trees she cultivated and cats who occasionally found sanctuary in her yard. She possessed a keen eye and steady hand which she used to great effect as a seamstress. Ms. Pyrtle deeply loved her family and friends and always placed their needs above her own.

Ms. Pyrtle is survived by her sons Glenn Pyrtle (Diane) and Jerry Pyrtle of Axton, VA, her daughters Judy Jordan (Charlie) of Florence, SC and Sherry Pyrtle of Axton, VA, and her brother Clifton “Tip” Parrish. She also has four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Ms. Pyrtle was preceded in death by ex-husband James Pyrtle, brothers Charlie Parrish and Clayton Parrish, sisters Mary Francis Parrish and Missouri Frances Parrish all of whom lived in Axton, VA.
