Nancy Carter O'Dell

Nancy Carter O’Dell, 87 of Eden, passed away Tuesday, August 18, 2026 at Ancora Compassionate Care’s Gibson House in Reidsville.

A funeral service will be held at 11am Monday, August 24, 2026 at Fair Funeral Home Chapel in Eden. Burial will follow at Ridgeview Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service, from 10-11am.

Nancy was born March 30, 1939 in Henry County, Virginia, to the late Beverly Morton Carter and Stella Flannagan Carter. She worked as a burler at Karastan Rug Mill until her retirement after having worked for more than 35 years. She loved to garden, having over fifty rose bushes. She also enjoyed playing video games on her computer. Nancy was always very giving and spoiled her family during baby showers and birthdays. She loved her family very much.

Surviving are her daughters, Rene O’Neill (son-in-law, Dan), and Melissa O’Dell-Yates; grandchildren, Katelyn Yates and Daniel O’Neill (Kristin Kahout); sister, Josephine Carter; sister-in-law, Rebecca Carter; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Nancy is preceded in death by her dear husband, Jimmie Vincent O’Dell; grandson, Trevor Yates; sister, Sally Reynolds; and brothers, J.B. Carter, Henry Carter, and Drewry “Billy” Carter.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to Ancora Compassionate Care and to the fourth floor of Wesley Long Hospital for their care and compassion.
