Nancy Lee Mcmillan Whitten

Nancy Lee McMillan Whitten, 93, of Eden passed away Saturday, April 8, 2023, at her home.

A private graveside memorial service and inurnment will be held for the family at 2pm Sunday, April 23, 2023, at Lawson Cemetery in Eden.

Nancy was born January 10, 1930, to the late Robert Lee and Cindy Nichols McMillan. She was a graduate of Perry Business School, receiving her associate’s degree. She worked for many years at The Wright Company in Eden as bookkeeper and realtor for Cherry Insurance and Realty in Eden, until retiring in 1991. Nancy was a member of Spray Baptist Church in Eden. She was a member of the Garden of Eden Club. She loved square dancing, and was a member of the Promenade Club and the Eden Squares, both in Eden. Nancy was a supporter and volunteer for Meals on Wheels in Rockingham County. She loved gardening and creating sculptures. Nancy loved spending time making pottery with her husband, George.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, George T. Whitten (Linda), Cindy L. Shelnut (Jeff), Georgann McGhee (Mark); eight grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; brothers, C. Wayne McMillan (Faye), David Kent McMillan (Dorothy); sister, Barbara M. Ashby.

In addition to her parents, Nancy was preceded in death by her loving husband of 64 years, George Alton Whitten, Jr.; brother, Robert “Bobby” McMillan; sisters, Mary Alice Sink (Hillman), Pattie M. Arrington (Jay), Katherine Jewel Lindholm.

If sending flowers, the family requests potted flowers or plants for outdoor planting to be used in a memorial garden that will be planted in honor of “Mom”.
