Nancy Ann Ellington Carter

July 4, 1932 — February 10, 2017

Nancy Ann Ellington Carter, 84, of 610 Forbes Street in Eden, passed away early Friday morning, February 10, 2017, at Morehead Nursing Center.

A funeral service will be held at 2 PM on Monday, February 13, at Leaksville Moravian Church, 712 McConnell Ave, Eden.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service (1 - 2 PM) at the church and other times at the residence.  Burial will follow in Ridgeview Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Carter was born July 4, 1932 in Leaksville, NC, to the late Troy and Sallie Berrier Ellington.  She was a graduate of Leaksville High School, Class of 1950 and played in the first Leaksville High School band from 1948 - 1950.  Nancy was a member of Leaksville Moriavian Church and was a charter member of the church band.  She was the Past President of the Professional Business Woman's Club where she was awarded Woman of the Year.  Nancy worked, previously, for Southern National Bank, Bank of Eden, and Tri-City Ford before retiring from Rockingham County Tax Department.

She is survived by her son, Barry Carter and his fiancee', Debra Pardue of Eden;  daughters, Donna Carter and husband, David of Callaway, VA and Gina Slack and husband, Greg of Albemarle;  nephew, Douglas Ellington, Jr. and wife, Vickie of Hertford;  sister, June Ellington Hicks and husband, Ray of Eden;  six grandchildren, Jamie, Renee, Whitney, Justin, Rachel and Ashley;  and six great-grandchildren, Ella, Layne, Houston, Rowan, Sarah, and Jackson.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Artis Casteen Carter and brother, Douglas L. Ellington.
