Michael Edward Booth, 79, of Winston-Salem passed away peacefully in his sleep on November 6, 2024 at his home.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, November 13, 2024 at 2pm at Fair Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow at Overlook Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
Michael was born May 12, 1945 in Leaksville, NC, to the late Len Booth and Francis Taylor Booth. He joined the military at age 17. He served in Vietnam as a Paratrooper with two tours of duty, reaching the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was very proud of his time serving his country in the Army.
He worked as a supervisor in the weave room at Fieldcrest Mills. He completed his Textile Management Degree from RCC. Michael started his own Construction Company, building houses and remodeling homes as well as carpentry and building cabinets. He also started his own trucking company as an owner/operator delivering furniture across the Southeast. Michael spent his retirement years making rabbit cages for local farm and feed stores.
Michael spent many years as an active volunteer for the NC and National High School Rodeo Associations. He served on the Board of Directors of NC High School Rodeo Association and National Director for the Jr. High Division. He was instrumental in the planning and developing of the Jr. High Division of the National HS Rodeo Association. Michael was responsible for scoreboards and timed events for national and state events where he served as a judge and arena director.
He was hard working, a cowboy at heart. He was a devoted husband and father. He was a loving “papa” who taught many life lessons. He loved his family, his friends, dancing with his beloved wife, fishing, camping, the mountains, and the wild west.
Michael was husband of 52 years to Betty Silver Booth of Winston-Salem; father to stepson, John Rothrock (Tammie Perry) of Reidsville, son, Mark Booth of Eden, daughters, Teresa Booth of Eden, Cheri Davis (Jesse) of Reidsville, Michah Gordon of Bassett, VA, Shayna Williard (Jason) of Graham; grandfather to 13; great-grandfather to 23; brother to Len Booth (Debbie) of Eden and Rhonda Lemons of Reidsville.
In addition to his parents, Michael is preceded in death by his sisters, Carol Pruitt and Brenda Craddock; stepdaughter, Lori Nelson; son-in-law, Delane Gordon.
