Melvin Lee Murphy

Melvin Lee Murphy, 89, passed away Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at Jacob's Creek Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Madison, NC. He was born January 15, 1925 to the late John Henry Murphy and Hattie Hyler Murphy. Melvin was a veteran of WWII, having served in the Navy aboard the battleship U.S.S. Alabama. He worked many years after the war in the shipyards in Baltimore, Maryland, and later retired from Fieldcrest Mills as an electrician. Melvin was an avid golfer, and painter, and made many beautiful things with his hands for family and friends.

He was predeceased by his son Tommy and brothers, James D. Murphy, Thomas Murphy and sisters, Clara M. Harris, Mozelle Gillie, Dewell Alderman, Virginia Gilley, and Doris Ward. He is survived by one sister, Diantha French, who also resides at Jacob's Creek.

To those who met Melvin, may his memory always make you smile, and God bless those who cared for Melvin in his final years on earth.
