Melvin Edgar Fain

Melvin Edgar Fain, 85, beloved husband of Ruth Alling Fain, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday morning, December 15, 2010 at Morehead Memorial Hospital. A funeral service will be held at 2 PM Sunday, December 19, at Fair Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Ridgeview Memorial Gardens. Mr. Fain was born February 6, 1925 in Spray, NC, son of the late Edgar Starley and Ethel Beatrice Williams Fain. He was a World War II Navy veteran who was attached to the US Army and participated in the second wave of the attack on Normandy during D-Day. He also participated in the Battle of the Bulge. Mr. Fain was a retired welder for the Department of Transportation. He was musically gifted, playing various instruments including guitar and mandolin. Surviving is his wife, Ruth Alling Fain of the home; son, Jeffrey Fain and wife, Jane of Eden; two daughters, Beverly Spence and husband, Larry and Catherine Donnell and husband, William, both of Eden; five grandchildren, Laura Pulliam, Matthew Fain, Paul Robinson, Joshua Robinson, and Sarah Terry; and four great-grandchildren, Sarah, Sadie, Emma, and David. The family will receive friends Saturday evening, 6 - 8 PM at Fair Funeral Home and other times at the residence. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Trinity Wesleyan Church, 186 E.
