Maynard Wade Shelton

Maynard Wade Shelton, 91 of Walnut Cove, passed away Thursday, December 25, 2025, at his home.

A funeral service will be held at 2pm Tuesday, December 30, 2025, at Fair Funeral Home Chapel in Eden, North Carolina. Burial will follow at Mountain View Cemetery in Ridgeway, Virginia.

Maynard was born July 12, 1934, in Henry County, VA, to the late Howard R. Shelton and Lillie Burris Shelton. He attended Axton High School for three years and graduated from Walnut Cove High School. Maynard was proud to have served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1957 to 1961, serving as an Air Policeman, Airman 2AC. Maynard was a member of Willow Oak Baptist Church. He was very strong in his Christian faith. Maynard worked as a machinist at Westinghouse in Rural Hall until his retirement. He enjoyed music and played guitar and banjo. He was an avid softball player and loved the Atlanta Braves. Mostly, Maynard loved his family and spending time with them.

Surviving are his daughters, Penny Shelton of Gibsonville and Angie Broughton of Greensboro; grandchildren, Jordan Shelton, Madelyn Anhui, Kirby Broughton, and Carly Broughton; son-in-law, Bo Broughton; daughter-in-law, Cathy Wagoner; sister, Hazel Shelton Brown.

In addition to his parents, Maynard is preceded in death by his loving wife, Dianne Dalton Shelton; son, Joseph L. Shelton; and siblings, Harvey Warren Shelton, Maggie Ellen Shelton Compton, Alice Louvie Shelton Keaton, Thomas Russell Shelton, James Edward Shelton, and Lora Inez Shelton Carter.
