Max Oliver Weddle

Max Oliver Weddle, 83, of 633 Cascade Avenue in Eden, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday morning, November 30, 2011 at Brian Center in Yanceyville. A funeral service will be held at 3 PM on Saturday, December 3, at First United Methodist Church (Draper area), Eden. Burial will follow in Danview Cemetery. Max was born April 25, 1928 in Leaksville, NC, son of the late Isaac Perry Weddle and Edna Alcorn Weddle. He grew up in Floyd, VA. Mr. Weddle was a member of First United Methodist Church in the Draper area, where he was very active. He was a member of the Methodist Men, a choir member, served on the Administrative Board and had served as a Trustee, and a member of the Wesley Sunday School Class. He was named Methodist Man of the Year in 1996. Mr. Weddle was also active outside the church for many years as a member of the Y's Men in Draper and honored as Y's-Men Man of the Year in 1981. He served his country from 1952 to 1954 in the US Army during the Korean War, attaining the rank of Staff Sargeant. Mr. Weddle was a former employee of Merita Bread and a retiree of Fieldcrest Cannon with 30 years of service. Surviving are his wife, Jeraline "Jean" Wood Weddle of the home; two children, Michael Weddle and wife, Karon of Eden and Dr. Diann Weddle of Round Lake Beach, IL; four grandchildren, Tyffany W. Fugitt and husband, Jonathan of Austin, TX, Timothy Weddle and wife, Renee of Eden, SrA Stephen Weddle (USAF-NJ) and fiancee, Sheana Jodice, , and Shayna Weddle of Eden/Greensboro; and a brother, Clifford Weddle of Eden and Garden City, SC; sister-in-law, Louise Cockran Weddle of Eden; aunt, Kate Weddle Ratliff of Floyd, VA; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins; as well as his cat, Marble. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter; his first wife, Catherine Gauldin Coleman Weddle; brother, James Elton "Buddy" Weddle; sister, Flora Nadine Weddle; and sister-in-law, Janet Fulton Weddle. The family will receive friends Saturday afternoon, prior to the service, from 1:30 PM to 3 PM at First United Methodist Church (Draper), and other times at the residence. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to First United Methodist Church of Draper, 130 Main Street, Eden, NC 27288.
