Mary Irene Harman Lawson, age 95 of Eden Road, Stoneville passed away on Saturday, December 24, 2016 at Morehead Memorial Hospital.
A Funeral service will be held on Tuesday December 27, 2016 at Fair Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow at Ridgeview Memorial Gardens. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service from 10 till 11 am in the chapel and other times at the home of her daughter, Judy Shumate, 315 Wilson Street, Eden, NC.
Irene was born June 18, 1921 in Floyd County, Virginia to the late Shadrack and Ellen Harman. She graduated in 1940 from Willis High School. In 1944 she married Albert Lawson, a union that lasted until his death in December 1975. Irene was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She wasa a homemaker but worked part-time in the school system and for Blue Bell Textiles after the passing of her husband. Irene loved her church, First Church of the Brethren, and was a faithful member of the Loyal Sons and Daughters Sunday School Class and a member of the Home and Family Committee. Irene loved cooking, especially baking pies, cleaning and most of all she loved watching Duke basketball.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Irene was preceded in death by brothers; Clovis, Conley, and Warren; sisters, June and Cleda.
She is survived by daughters; Joyce Smith and husband Bill and Judy Shumate and husband John both of Eden; son, James A. Lawson of the home; grandsons, Steven Lawson, Todd Smith and Mike Smith and wife Katy; brother, Edward Harman and wife Georgianna; several nieces and nephews.
