Martha Farabee, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and dedicated educator, passed away on October 13, 2026, at home, surrounded by her loving family. She was 77 years old.
Born on August 3, 1949, in Leaksville, NC. Martha graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she studied French and Education. She received advanced degrees in Psychology and Learning Disabilities from Wake Forest University and Salem College. She devoted her professional life to helping students discover their strengths, build confidence, and reach their fullest potential.
From 1989 to 2018, Martha served as a Language Development Specialist at Forsyth Country Day School, where she spent 29 years making a profound and lasting difference in the lives of students. Through her work and leadership in the Johnson Academic Center, she helped countless young people navigate learning challenges, recognize their abilities, and develop the confidence to succeed. An Orton-Gillingham Fellow and member of the International Dyslexia Association, Martha brought both specialized expertise and deep compassion to her work. In 2014, she received the Charles H. Jones III Faculty Award in recognition of her outstanding contributions as an educator. Her influence extended far beyond the classroom, and she will be remembered with great affection by the many students, colleagues, and members of the Forsyth Country Day School community whose lives she touched.
