Marion Shumate Edwards

Marion Shumate Edwards, age 94 of 2100 NC 135, Eden and more recently of Arbor Ridge of Eden and Brookdale of Reidsville, passed away on Friday morning, October 7, 2016 at Hospice Home of Rockingham County.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday at Kings Highway Christian Church with burial to follow at Overlook Cemetery.

Mrs. Edwards was born March 20, 1922 in the Leaksville section of Eden to the late R.D. and Pauline Wood Shumate.  She was a graduate of Leaksville High School Class of 1939 and attended Meredith College in Raleigh and National Business College in Roanoke, VA.  She was a very active member of Kings Highway Christian Church, a member of Rockingham County Republican Women and Eden Garden Club.

Preceding her in death along with her parents were husband, Garland S. Edwards; sisters, Anne Allender and Elizabeth "Lib" Lamar; brother, R.D. Shumate, Jr.

She is survived by son, Mike Edwards of Charlotte; daughter, Carol Edwards  Hundley (Reggie) of Knoxville, TN.; granddaughters, Stephanie McSpaddin (Jason) of Madisonville, TN. and Susan Ogburn (Jonathan) of Murfreesboro, TN.; great-grandchildren, Liam Ogburn, Madeline and Wesley McSpadden and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Sunday evening at Fair Funeral Home from 6 -8 pm.
