Margaret May Cook Rorrer, 88, of 608 Victor Street in Eden, NC, went to be with the Lord and her loving husband of 69 years on Thursday, December 15, 2011. A funeral service will be held at 3 pm on Sunday, December 18, at St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Eden with Reverend Michael Zumpf officiating, and Fair Funeral Home handling the arrangements. The burial will follow in Overlook Cemetery. Mrs. Rorrer was born November 28, 1923 in Spray, NC to the late Augustus Cook and Cora Jane Self Cook. Mrs. Rorrer was a faithful member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church where she was confirmed with her husband on December 16, 1945. She served for many years as a Sunday School Teacher of the Florence Nightingale Bible Class. She also served as president of the Episcopal Church Women, taught Vacation Bible School, sung in the church choir, and was involved with the Altar Guild and Daughters of the King. Mrs. Rorrer received the honor of Mother of the Year from the church in 1976. She was also involved in the Spray Fire Department's Ladies Auxillary. Margaret Rorrer retired from the Eden City School System after 25 years of service in the School Food Service Department as cafeteria manager at Lakeside School. She will be remembered for her generous hospitality to school administration, family and friends. Mrs. Rorrer was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She is survived by sons, James Brewster Rorrer and wife, Peggy of Eden and Larry Wade Rorrer and wife, Kristie of Eden. Other survivors include grandchildren, Tammy Rorrer Long and husband, Ricky of Eden, Jamie Rorrer and wife, Jamie of Kernersville, Kimberly Rorrer Garrett and husband, Mark of Eden; step-granddaughter, Cindy Bibee and husband, Rocky of Eden; great-grandchildren, Rick and Dustin Long, Anna and Aiden Rorrer, Colby and Kyndall Garrett; step-great-grandchildren, Kristin Richardson and Isaac Bibee; her sister, Magdalene Gibson; and brother, Melvin Cook. She is also survived by long-time friend, James Glidden. Preceeding her in death were her brothers, James Cook and David Cook, Sr.; and sisters, Viola Cook and Vivian Vestal. Visitation will be held on Saturday evening, 6 - 8 PM at Fair Funeral Home and other times at the residence. The family would like to thank the women who have taken care of her, the staff at Annie Penn Hospital and Hospice Home.
