MARGARET EMERSON HYLTON

Margaret Emerson Hylton, lovingly known as “Nana,” went to her Heavenly home on November 21, 2025, in Danville, VA, after a brief illness. Born on September 1, 1942, in Dry Fork, VA, to William Aylor Emerson and Lessie Holley Emerson, she was the youngest of nine children. At a young age, Nana accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. She was a faithful member of Vandola Baptist Church.

On January 25, 1964, she married her best friend, Marvin Hylton (Papa). They were blessed with two children, Sheila and Craig. Nana lived an eventful life full of love, laughter, and good times. She and Papa were years-long volunteers with God’s Pit Crew. In 2008, they were honored to be “roadies” hauling equipment for the Christian worship group, Big Daddy Weave. They enjoyed traveling and spending their winters in Florida as snowbirds in their motor home, “Flipper.”

Nana was known for her infectious laughter and outgoing personality. She never met a stranger and loved to talk to anyone that she came in contact with. She loved tending to her flower beds and her impressively beautiful koi fish pond. She adored her blue birds and went to great lengths to make sure they were always safe and cared for. Nana especially loved to go shopping with her girls. They made many memories on their shopping outings to Greensboro. Krispy Kreme doughnuts, birthday cake, and coffee were her most favorite foods.

Nana’s greatest accomplishment was her family. She was the “Queen Bee” of her family and was loved beyond measure. She is survived by her daughter, Shelia Lewis (Poet), and son, Marvin Craig Hylton (Amy). Five grandchildren: Brandi Sparks (Jacob), Amelia Nelson (Justin), Austin Lewis (Rebecca), Parker Lewis, and Peyton Hylton ( Delaney). She was also blessed with five great-grandchildren: Addyson, Jeremiah, Jameson Nelson, and Levi and Leah Sparks. She is also survived by her siblings Ray Emerson, William Emerson, and Frances Allen. She was preceded in death by her parents as well as her siblings, Clarence, Buck, James, Nora, and Nell.

A Funeral Service to celebrate Nana’s life will be held on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, at 11 a.m. at Vandola Baptist Church. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place at Danville Memorial Gardens.

The family would like to thank the medical staff at SOVAH Danville for taking such good care of Nana during her stay there. She was given the best of care and became “Nana” to all of the staff in the ICU. The exceptional care given by Dr. Tijani and his team will never be forgotten.

In place of flowers, the family asks that you make donations to Vandola Baptist Church, God’s Pit Crew, or St. Judes Children’s Research Hospital in honor of the beautiful life that Nana lived.

Nana will be deeply missed, forever loved, and always remembered. We are thankful to know that this separation is only temporary and that we will be reunited with her again for eternity in God’s glorious kingdom.

Fair Funeral Home will be serving the family.
